Do you know what is lurking in your mouth? Has your dentist ever looked at your oral bacteria under a microscope? If not, how do they really know? Even if your smile “looks” great, dangerous things could be going on beneath the gums. Which is where bacteria like to hide out. We all have beneficial and harmful bacteria in our mouths. It’s part of being a human being.
Bacteria we look for when we take an oral plaque bacterial slide:
Healthy bacteria like cocci are beneficial to oral health.
Moderate-risk bacteria like spinning rods and clock arms.
High-risk bacteria like gliding rods, amoeba, red/white blood cells, trichomonad, and spirochetes. Which have been found to travel from the mouth to other parts of the body like the gut, heart, and brain.
We use a microscopic review to find out exactly what kind of bacteria is in your mouth, just with a simple plaque sample. Once we know, we can give you the proper instruction, education, and hygiene cleaning to get you back in the healthy range.
We want to make sure there are more good than bad. When high-risk bacteria outnumber the good, that’s when disease begins and your risk increases for these:
Gingivitis/Periodontitis
Cavities
Digestion problems/Gut dysbiosis
Alzheimer’s/dementia
Cancers
Diabetes
Arthritis
And more.
